F.A.Q.
What’s with everything having a sliding scale/two prices?
Basically we feel really awful about charging people for the music/goods we carry and really just want to get them out there. So the sliding scale is a way for us not to feel as bad, unlike demanding one set price from you. Pay whatever you can afford, even if it’s the cheapest price listed-we really don’t mind at all. But we do struggle to keep new things coming out, so if ya can handle a higher price that would be great. But we started this project on our own and knew what it would entail, so in no way is it your responsibility to give us more than the lowest price posted.
How long will my order take to arrive?
We usually ship every order the day after it arrives. From then it will usually take about 5 days or so in the U.S. to get to you. You can expect about 2 - 3 weeks from the time you put tour order in the mail (but usually less.) If its been longer than 3 weeks feel free to contact us to see what’s up (but this hasn’t happened once yet.)
What do you do with the money you make?
We haven’t made a profit or broke even off of any of our releases as of yet, nor do we intend to. We sell all our releases for damn cheap and give stuff away for free all the time. We are almost always in need of funds, but in the rare cases that some $ is kicking around it goes into Bandit projects like making pins/stickers & photo copies or expanding the distro and stuff like that.
Can I order with a credit card?
Yes. But not from us. Our online distributors carry most of the Bandit music releases and accept credit cards. But they add a slight mark-up on our prices. See the contact/ordering page for links to them. But it would be cheaper to do mail-order direct from us. Besides we’ll send ya free extras or a nice letter or a weird drawing .
Why don’t you accept credit cards or checks?
If you found intrest in our website/catalog we are sure you already have an idea about the evils of capitalism…Anyway we really think it’s more important to write letters instead of going to the bank. So for now we have no interest in starting a pay-pal or anything like that, fuck that shit.
Do the DIY Bandits set up shows-if so can you help out my band?
WE ARE CURRENTLY NOT SETTING UP ANY SHOWS!!! SORRY-
Yes, we do set up smaller DIY shows in CT. If you/your band wants a money guarantee you’re looking in the wrong place (we never pocket any money from our shows, we give all profit to the bands, but we don’t do guarantees.) We try to help touring bands when ever possible but please understand that we all live busy lives. Some of us have full time jobs for one reason or another and others have kids to play with & care for and others are out on the road a lot. But email us and we’ll see what we can do. It would help if you told us the following info in your e-mail: your band name & general style of music. is it acoustic or electric (would you need a pa?) will you need housing or food (are you veggie?)
Are you serious about all that hating the government talk?
Absolutely. If you don’t hate the government then you must not be paying attention! We are also serious about figuring out ways to get rid of this corrupt, racist government, get in touch if you have any good ideas.
Can I use something from your releases for my own project?
For sure! As long as you’re not some corporate asshole or a jerk trying to rip people off feel free to reproduce any of our goods and text as you see fit. Put songs on you compilation or writings in you zine or whatever-we don’t mind at all. Please take whatever you want. If you do use anything we offer we’d like to know about it if possible (but that’s not necessary). It would be cool if ya gave credit to the bands (and diy bandits if ya feel like it.)
Why are some releases on cd and others on cd-r?
There are two basic reasons for this. First off, when you press an actual cd you have to make at least 1,000 and we know that we can not sell that many copies of some of the music we put out and it would be a very wasteful process. Secondly we can’t afford to always pay the cost of pressing 1,000 real cds. Instead we just put out some releases on cd-r. Whats it really matter, you get to hear the music either way and that’s what is important!
Can I get wholesale rates so I can sell some of your releases through my distro or at shows?
Sure you can-we love working with distros and other bands. We have our wholesale rates listed on the contact/ordering page-anyone can get them. Trades can happen also, but we don’t do them often.
Who exactly are you guys?
First off we are not all guys. We consist of an ever changing cast of people from all walks of life. It would be safe to say every project so far was created with different Bandits. People often come and go and there are of course some folks that been at it since the beginning. We like to work with people from outside the diy punk scene and often tend to associate with the working class folk who know very little about diy, underground, punk culture. As for who we are exactly you’ll never know, what good Bandit reveals their true identity?
Can you put out my bands cd?
First off we like to work with people we know on a somewhat personal level. It just feels more fun and natural that way; not like a job or business deal. But if were not friends and ya want to be then say hello and perhaps one day we can work on something together. But remember, we are almost always broke and can’t afford to press cds at any moment (but cd-r’s are pretty cheap!)
I really like what you’re doing-how can I help out?
Yes! Write us a letter/e-mail and let us know you like what we’re doing, that would make us so happy (and we promise to write back.) Also spread the word! Word of mouth means a lot in the DIY community. Tell your friends to check us out, link us on your web page, ask for copies of our catalog to give away . Distro our goods or just burn our cds and copy our text and art for your friends (and even strangers). Donations can be extremely useful but the other stuff means more than money to us.
